how does this HAPPEN?!

December 18, 2008 by birdpress

I never answer the door for strangers, so when the doorbell rings, I always peek out to see if it’s someone I know.  I’m now thinking that this may not be such a wise idea.

Shortly after getting home from work today, I heard the doorbell ring.  Alice barked and I stealthfully sneaked up to the door to check and see who it was.

Here, I approach the peephole…

peephole

Closer…

peephole2

Almost there…

peephole3

And then I passed out.

Okay, not really, but almost.  Instead, obviously, I went for my camera.  I took a few shots in case they didn’t turn out.  Here’s one where I’m blocking the flash, which makes everything red:

I know!  Gaaahhh!

Ugh! I don’t like spiders but I will trap them under a glass and put them outside. If they touch me though, all bets are off. But I sure as hell wouldn’t want to put my eyeball up close to one!!

That was the worst, just that I almost had my eyeball right up to it. Imagine if I did and it jumped at me or something! I would have really been traumatized then!

    HOLY SHIT! *dies*
Seriously though, I would DEFINITELY hav fainted. Or would have had a mmild heart attack. At the very least. ;)

    Miss you guys!

I felt my heart jump into my throat. I certainly got a nice rush of adrenaline from this little guy.

So who was at the door?

    That’s quite a scary picture.

At the door? Oh shit! I knew I forgot something…

That picture looks so awesome, though!
But I wonder if he is there to stay? If he keeps growing, he’ll block your view! ;)

Sadly, Josh came home shortly after and, uh, removed him. RIP little monster.

Holy crap! That would have freaked me out. I have no clue how they get into those places and what makes them think they’ll be able to get food there? I had no idea where this was going. When you said you almost passed out I figured it was because of who was BEHIND the door, not who was IN the peephole. Yowza. I’m still in shock over this one. **shudders**

Yeah, it took me a while to get over the shock too. Now I almost feel guilty for ratting him out. But then I look into those beady little eyes and… well, it had to be done!

That was HORRIBLE!!!! You know how I feel about spiders. I’m the world’s worst arachnophobe!

This almost made ME pass out!!!!! AAGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Don’t EVER look out that peephole again! It could put your eye out! (spoken in my best mommy voice)

Did ya kill it with 4 1/2 cans of Raid like I woulda done?

Oh, and yes, like Mike Goad said, who was at the door?

Josh used about a half a can. Now the damn peephole is fogged up from the inside! I’m going to try putting windex on a q-tip. Not that I’m in a hurry to use the peephole again anyway. I think the person at the door was selling something. We get a lot of those. He didn’t wait around very long because he was gone by the time I opened the door to see if I could see the spider from the outside.

That is an amazing photo especially with the monster’s eyes glowing. Wicked cool! I loved the way you built up to it also. I am also glad it was your peephole and not mine. I don’t answer the door either. I actually have no peepholes. When I don’t answer the door people know I’m home because I have so much glass and no curtains. I usually just yell at them through the glass and tell them I’m not home. That’s when they leave.

What’s scary is that I got about six more photos like that and you can see the eyes glowing in each one, but they are not always in exactly the same place, so it’s like he’s planning his move. Even in these ones you can see they are at a different angle if you look at the last two pictures.
I’ll have to try your strategy to get people to leave me alone, LOL.

GAH! Hells to the NO! I would have died! Eesh, is it still there????

Nah, lucky for me, Josh came home and sprayed Raid into the hole until he stopped wiggling.

  9. on December 19, 2008 at 11:10 am Becky

That’s wicked creepy and I’m not even remotely afraid of spidies.

Yeah, and I am, so imagine how creepy it was for me!

  10. on December 19, 2008 at 1:19 pm javajunkee

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to enter that in some kind of photo contest! I’m going to go check my peeker now!

Ha ha, I’m glad you got a laugh at my expense! :P

OMG! I would have passed out on the spot. Spiders are the one thing that really scare me. Was it alive, or just hanging around dead? I would have had to wait till husband got home to find out.

Looking through the peephole before answering the door is a great idea! Who would have thunk it? I have a peephole, too, but what’s the point when half my front door is glass? The people across the street from me can see me approaching the door for heaven’s sake.

Oops, never mind on the dead or alive thing. I just read all your comments and found out the outcome of the spider. Ick!

Yeah, at least he hung out in there instead of jumping out at me. And any spider lovers out there, there was no way to get him out alive!

  12. on December 20, 2008 at 10:00 am javajunkee

so are we assuming this was a prank? The doorbell rings and you find a spider? Or is this a really tricky spider? Or are the two not even connected? Either way that’s a GREAT photo! I love it.

No! This was not a prank! In spite of my past history, I promise you, LOL. Just a creepy moment captured on film. :)

  13. on December 20, 2008 at 9:55 pm javajunkee

but you still don’t know who the hell rang the doorbell?

Don’t know and don’t really care!

  14. on December 20, 2008 at 9:56 pm javajunkee

LOL I was soooooo not laughing at you…but with you and joan! ;) ( I know she was snickering)

  15. on December 21, 2008 at 10:45 pm David

Awesome how you captured those eyes!!

I’m NOT going to think about that spider attacking my eyeball. Nope.

    :D

Ha ha, I think that would have given me nightmares for the rest of my life!

  16. on December 22, 2008 at 2:54 pm Soapbox Diva

I’m with Joan and David…..the part I noticed first was the glowing eyes…..it was very eery! Freaky eery! He must have been way discombobulated…..got here for the wrong holiday. He’s a couple months too late! Hope you have a ’spider-free’ Merry Christmas!

Thanks! Yeah, those glowing eyes are freaky, aren’t they?!

  17. on December 22, 2008 at 3:28 pm Emerald

Holy nightmares batman!!!!!! I would have needed some serious talking down from that one. Oh God, get the pills or something! *brrrrrrrrrrrrr*

A ginormous spindly spider chased me into my grandmothers house once. They’ve been the death of me ever since.

Eek! It chased you? Ever have one jump at you? I’m always afraid of that.

  18. on December 24, 2008 at 8:48 pm Charity

    AHHHHH!

Ok, that last picture freaks me out even more than the photo I took of a spider that I ALMOST PUT MY HAND ON that was nearly half the size of a soda can.

Brrrr. I know spiders are good guys but man they are creepy as all get out.

Well, SOME of them are good guys, I guess. I wish you got a picture of your spider!

    Bejeezus!

I HATE Spiders. I would be glad I didn’t put my eye real close to that thing!

So, did you ever answer the door?

    On that note,
I don’t answer the door either. Our screen door locks as well, so they can’t open anything. Unfortunately, we have windows in our doors *BAD*, but I can peep out to see who’s there. If it’s someone I don’t know – I don’t answer – or I grab my shotgun and go to the door (so hillbilly)…
