day off

November 20, 2008 by birdpress

I had the day off today!  While I was out running errands (who ever really has the day off?) I picked up stuff to make rice crispy treats.  I was inspired by my friend, Teeni, who made this adorable Rice Crispy Man yesterday, and I could not get the crispy craving out of my system without giving in.

Thank you, Teeni, for contributing to my pre-holiday weight gain!

It’s been so long since I’ve made these, or even eaten them, that I couldn’t remember how much of everything to add.  Mom always advises to add more butter to everything (and mom knows best!), so I “fixed” the original recipe and made it a full half-stick of butter, plus I added a half-cup of peanut butter to add to the gooeyness.  I seem to remember the peanut butter keeping them chewy longer.  I used the peanut butter that is mixed with honey because it sounded like it might be good.

Anyway, I just wanted to offer that as a tip, because these turned out YUMMY!  Oh yeah, and another tip is to use salted butter.  (Only the best to clog my loved ones’ arteries!)  In an amazing show of restraint, I only ate one and wrapped the rest up to surprise Josh with them when he gets home.  I am going to make him take whatever is left over to work tomorrow because I do not need these things redistributing themselves in my ass.

…

Josh and I bought some Sculpey the other day with great expectations of all the amazing projects we were going to create.  For our first attempts, I made a snowman and he made an elf:

I think his elf is adorable, but he was very frustrated with the sculpey and decided that he will never use it again.  I’m a little more optimistic and so today I tried my hand at a couple more ornaments.  I’m pretty happy with how they turned out!  Much better than the snowman, I think.  I’d like to post a picture but I think I’m going to give one of those to my mom, and I can’t have her sneaking a peak at it ahead of time!

Well, I’m off to work off those rice crispy treats I’m going to eat later…

    Yums is right!

Oops. Sorry for giving you the craving, Birdpress! LOL. They are hard to resist once you see them. Oh, the recipe I used also said to use 1/2 stick of butter. Your mom is so smart! There are so many recipes out there though. These are some flexible treats! I like the idea of the peanut butter with honey! LOL@ redistributing themselves in your ass! You look like you have a tiny little ass that could stand a few rice crispy treats. But good for you and your willpower to stop at one! That is not easy (for me, anyway). I absolutely LOVE those Sculpey ornaments you two made! Josh’s elf is awesome. I can’t believe he stopped. And your snowman is adorable! I love the classy hat and scarf he’s wearing! Well, hopefully your mom will let us see the ornaments sometime. :)

The original recipe calls for three tablespoons, which is less than half a stick. What’s wrong with them, skimping on the butter like that?? Josh’s elf is cute, right? He chose something difficult to start with, and I chose something pretty simple, so maybe that’s why he got so frustrated. I just finished making some more sculpey things! I actually got him to try again too, but he got mad and squashed his and vowed (again) never to try it again!

Your ornaments look GREAT! Well done. :)

    Thanks! :)

I love the ornament! teeni makes me hungry too!

That must be such a tease when you’re stuck in the hospital. :( Sorry, Kaylee!

thanks…now I’m hungry for rice krispie bars >:(! And don’t have the stuff to make them.

have you ever had the cheerios bars?? HHHMMM they are good and addicting.

ok..on that sculpy clay…yeah I’m agreeing with Josh…all I could ever make with that stuff was a big fat mess. You both did a good job though. I see what people make with that and it’s like…”no you didn’t!” You bought that someplace.

Are the cheerios ones made the same way? The sculpey is frustrating, yeah. The people on the craft shows make it look so easy! I can’t keep it from turning mushy and sticking to my fingers. And getting cat hairs in it, LOL.

heck, yes it is. gah, i wont eat any more of this shit!

Don’t be stubborn though, Kaylee. You know you have to eat something!

Yup, they both came out very cute, the elf and snowman. Peanut butter and honey rice crispy treats? Sounds very interesting, and rather tempting. Did you do the gingerbread man shape? Or did you stick with the traditional squares? If you would have waited for J to help you, maybe he could have made some sculptures with it, like Floam. :P Just a thought. ;)

I just did squares. I couldn’t imagine sculpting that stuff! I had enough trouble just getting it out of the pan!

Mmm, I just bought rice krispy treats at the grocery store yesterday- that Teeni- … yours sound better than store bought though- too bad we don’t live close by, I soooo would have invited myself over ;)

Those are KILLER ornaments! Just killer! I have gobs of skulpy clay, I should get that out and make some too.

Mine are definitely yummier than the store-bought. ;) Glad you liked the ornaments! My next ones will be better though. You should make some too and let me see pictures!

MORE butter!?? I always cut it back as much as possible; I am a whiz at altering dessert and other recipes (modest, too). They still taste great!

Pardon me for dissenting, but adding peanut butter to rice crispy candy would absolutely RUIN it for me! (I’m not fond of peanut butter confections, tho I do enjoy a PBJ on occasion.)

I certainly agree that your “sculpey” creations look great! I doubt I could manage those, tho I do seem to have a talent for tie-dyeing!

Ha ha… My mom came for Thanksgiving last year and showed me her “tricks” to make everything taste better… more butter! If I’m trying to make healthy stuff then, yeah, I’ll cut out the butter, but when I’m making something that isn’t supposed to be healthy, forget it! These things just don’t taste the same if you try to healthy them up! And the PB does make it better, I swear. It only adds a hint of peanut taste. I can’t wait to see your tie dye projects!

k, I swear, I will buy some of that clay this weekend, I want new stuff – who knows how old that other stuff on my shelf is???

And, I will take pictures for your amusement! Mine are not going to be any where near as kick ass as yours and J’s because I don’t think I have that kind of patience ??? We’ll see!

The old stuff is probably good still. If it’s wrapped up it will last a very long time. I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Maybe I can steal some ideas from you. :)

Oh, now you got JQ hooked on sculpey clay too! I can’t wait to see what she comes up with. Yeah, I bet I could probably roll a piece between my hands and make a snake. That’s about it. Or maybe a ball. I could probably make a ball too. LOL.
