I know you all have been sitting around lately, thinking, “Gee, I sure hope Birdpress posts more pictures of her dog again soon! I can’t get enough of that!” Well, you are in luck!
Here is Alice playing with one of her favorite toys – a balloon:
J discovered this game with her and Alice loves it. She’ll bat the balloon back at us when we toss it to her. I think she’s trying to catch it actually, but it works as if she’s volleying it back to us. The game ends when the balloon breaks.
And because I didn’t want to leave her out, here is Ella, my kitty, playing with her foot:
Ella’s favorite thing to play with is Alice, actually, but I never have the camera available when she jumps out and sneak-attacks her. This cat tree is her place to roost. It overlooks the living room and is placed so that we must walk by her to get to the kitchen, which enables her to get lots of attention and belly rubs. If you don’t pet her when you pass by she will reach out and smack you with her claws.

LOL. I forgot how big poodles can get! Alice is very pretty. And I have a soft spot for kitties, so Ella is adorable. My cats do that swatting thing as you pass by too. After all these years, I can’t tell if it is cute or annoying. It kind of annoys me AND makes me laugh at the same time. LOL.
Alice looks huge compared to Josh in the background there, doesn’t she? In reality she is a little on the large size for a female standard poodle. She was 64 lbs last time I weighed her. Ella is a little chunker, but she doesn’t eat all that much. We tried putting her on a diet by measuring out her food but she won’t lose weight and I can’t give her any less than I do now. She’s so cuddly though. I loves the kitties too!
I think I told you I had a white Standard poodle when I was young. When I was in the third grade he was on the porch on the second story of the tenement we lived in. I was walking to school and as I walked down the driveway he decided he wanted to come with me and jumped off the porch. He landed on all fours and didn’t hurt himself a bit. I cried. He was such a good dog but he always needed a haircut.
Your Alice is beautiful. I love kitties of course because I have three of them and they are always swatting each other or me. Your Ella is sweet too.
Aww. That would have scared me too if my dog jumped off a second story porch! Thank God he was okay. Did you groom that dog at home? I know you love your kitties!
How many pets do you have altogether?
I just have these two girls now.
Ella is adorable!
I have to be honest, I’ve never been much of a cat person but as each month passes I’m starting to change my mind. I’m allergic so I didn’t grow up with any cats around and I think that’s maybe it.
I’d love to get a cat one day though. *sigh*
Isn’t there something a doc can prescribe for those allergies? I have always had cats and I love them! I couldn’t imagine not having a cat. A home without a cat is just a house.
I enjoy your critter pics and I really like your before and after critter clips too.
(Stupid fact time) When I retire from trucking I want to build custom cat trees, or at least one for my cat, Sasha.
You know, those things sell for lots of money! There is one in a pet store near me that I always admire but it is like $200. It’s so cool though; it looks like an actual tree but is covered in brown and green carpet with “landings” in the branches. I bought Ella’s from someone who made them in my old town. It is a tall, sturdy one with three holes and also holes in a circular pattern inside (if that makes sense) so that she can climb up, and then the top is just flat (no hole). She usually sits on top or in the top hole. This one was $80. It has lasted for years and she loves it.
OOH! I don’t think we’ve ever played with a balloon with my dogs… I bet they’d LOVE it!
I bet they would! You should try it.
So, I bow to your expertise in this matter:
I saw an advert for “Pedipaws” on the telly, and being wary of all things hawked for any number of payments of $19.95, I immediately went to the Internet for guidance.
Reviews seem mixed on the usefullness of this product. I, having to large dogs who don’t run around as much as they used to, and who therefore, do not keep their own nails trimmed anymore, need something better than that scary sliding mail clippy thing used in the days of yore.
Wanna weigh in on Pedipaws?
Do you mean “Peticure”? Or is it the same thing? If it is then it’s basically a dremel with a cover over it. On the grooming forums it got mixed reviews too. I have a regular dremel at work but I don’t like it. I usually clip nails first and only use that to round off the edges on some dogs. Some dogs like a dremel better but some don’t like it at all, so it’s hard to say if it will work for you.
duh, “…having two…”
Just stopped by to say I’ve tagged you for a meme here:
http://www.vtroom.com/2008/07/30/its-all-about-me-sorta-kinda/ and I hope you can participate. But of course, while I was here, I checked out your other comments and I do hope Peter Parkour will build those cat trees. I’d definitely buy one. I hope he would give me a little discount though because they really ARE expensive as you mentioned and that is why I don’t have any now.
Cool, I will go check out what you tagged me for! I think Mr. Parkour should make us all cat trees at a discount so we can promote them on our blogs!
::tells birdpress to get on the ball and update:: lol!
Ha ha… You are right, Kaylee. I haven’t had a chance, but I will get to it soon!
I love that picture of your dog with the ballon. Sometimes animals look so completely human, don’t they? I’ve heard that poodles are one of the smartest dogs, but I’ve never spent time around one.
I second Peter’s comment about the “before & after” pics. I love them!
Yeah, standard poodles and border collies are supposed to be the smartest, according to the AKC. I think they determine it by how easily they are trained. (Of course, there are different “types” of smart!) I’m glad you like the before and afters!
