Update randomness

July 11, 2008 by birdpress

No time for proper blogging, but I wanted to get a few things down before I head off to work today, so this will be a rather random and rambling post…

I got my biggest tip ever this week from a nice couple of men who brought me their border collie mix, a matted mess, along with a muzzle and a warning that he will turn into a pit bull as soon as I attempt to groom him.  They told me I had permission to have him sedated by the vet if I could not get him to cooperate.

Upon assessing the dog I immediately found the cause of his crankiness.  His entire rear-end was matted so badly that he could not comfortably move his legs without the hair pulling on the sensitive skin back there, and around his belly area too.  I clipped the dog down carefully.  Not only did I not need the muzzle, but I took the grooming loop off completely to clip the mats around his face.  He was a sweetheart, and the men were very grateful, as was the dog!

I went dress-shopping for a bridal gown the other day, expecting to come home discouraged because I’m extremely self-conscious and think my body is shaped oddly.  I ended up buying the first dress I tried on!  It was meant for me.  I saw it hanging there and loved it, then checked the tag and saw that it was a size smaller than I thought I’d need, since formal dresses are supposed to be smaller, aren’t they?  But then I always wear my clothes loose, so this was different.  Anyway, it fit perfectly, other than needing the obvious alterations such as hemming and adjusting the top a little.  Even the bust wasn’t gapping, as I thought it would be.  The best thing though?  It was marked down to 1/5 the original price!  Nothing wrong with it other than the style is discontinued.

Does anyone know what to do about boobage?  I’m small-chested and large-boned.  I’m not sure if a strapless bra will work.  I considered tape (yikes) but I’m afraid they’d disappear altogether.  I hope only women are reading this.

I’m amazed at how fast babies grow.  My nephew is singing songs and counting to ten and doing all sorts of other cool things while I’m 700 miles away and can’t see any of it.  I can’t wait to go home next month to see him.  My dad is having a family reunion and J and I need to go see the place where we’re getting married and do some planning, so it’s a good opportunity to get a bunch of stuff crammed into one short 4-day weekend.  Two of those days will be driving, unfortunately.

Also, our friends’ baby just got his first tooth.  It seems like the boy was just born yesterday, but it has in fact been six months!  They grow up so fast.  Who knew?

This weekend is PetQuest in Ft. Mitchell, KY.  J and I are going on Saturday so we can shop and watch the poodle grooming competition.  Maybe next year I will enter.  I’ve been saving all my tips so I can buy stuff at the trade show.  I need new blending shears and maybe new scissors if I have enough money left.  If not I will get more brushes.  I love buying grooming supplies; it’s like buying art supplies.

I’ll leave you with a couple cute before and after pics, just ’cause their fun…

Incidentally, if I ever get another dog that is not a poodle I will get a Welsh terrier.  They are such awesome dogs.  Not only adorable, but sweet and fun too.  I think they have the best disposition of all the terrier breeds.

Here is a side view of him that is a little blurry, but you can kind of see the little eyebrows in this one:

    Poor, Collie!
Luckily, he had skilled hands to fix him right up.

Congratulations on the dress. One fifth the original price, too?! Good job. :)

Oh, congrats on getting your dress so soon! Yeah! Doesn’t it seem like when you don’t expect to find something, you always do- when you think something will be easy, it turns out to be a total hassle? Why is that? Anyway, I’m so glad you got that stresser gone and that it’s gorgeous, and fits good, and also, you got a deal on it! Yea!

The border collie mix story is unreal. You are the best ~L- I’m amazed by your mad talent! You saved him from pain. Yeah, no wonder he was crabby? What is with these owners? They want a certain breed but then don’t want to afford or bother with taking care of their fur? Seriously, if you want a poodle, or whatever, they need to realize a big expense is keeping them healthy and trimmed properly. Those matts can be excrusiating (my spelling sucks in this rant, I’m on work computer and there is no spell check as I go- you’re finding out today what a horrid speller I am; shhh! Don’t tell).

The dog pics are great! Love that first little poodle, her ears are so cute! And the other is beautiful and looks adorable!

PS, sorry, don’t know a thing about the boobie issue. I got big ole hooters that are always in the way…. yuck. I’d rather have little bits any day!

My daughter went to one store and didn’t find anything the first time she shopped for her wedding gown. The next time she went she tried on the first gown and burst into tears. She had found the perfect gown for only $300. Seeing herself in it actually made her cry.

I love the doggie photos. I saw the cutest mini Yorkshire terrier this morning at weight watchers. It weighed 5 pounds. I think it’s at its’ goal weight.

I’m so happy for you about the wedding dress! I’ve heard that it can be quite tedious, so that’s pretty great. :)

Hey, I’m all for rambling posts! (I do them quite well!)

I’m not sure about the boobage. I’ve got big “girls,” so I am always trying to minimize them–but so cool about the dress! :)

Um, I wish I remembered the brand of the boob support stickers I found for my wedding – Macy’s or one of those nice dept stores might have it. works great, more gentle than tape but yes, still some quick rip and an ouch to remove but not horrible. They were shaped like fans.

I like reading about the pups. Have you ever worked with a Griff? The Welsh Terrier looks like a sweetie.
